Hannan High was thrilled to welcome Mrs. Gayle Manchin, wife of former U.S. Senator Joe Manchin, to our school today. Mrs. Manchin is the first Appalachian Regional Commission Co Chair from West Virginia. She also served as West Virginia's First Lady and was appointed to serve as a member of the State Board of Education, serving her last two years as president at both the state and national level. Mrs. Manchin had heard about our school and wanted to meet our school and our students who have been selected to serve as WV's official representatives at the 80th annual Peal Harbor Memorial Parade in Hawaii on December 7, 2025. Mrs. Manchin conveyed the history of the USS West Virginia battleship being badly damaged at the attack at Pearl Harbor and later the battleship was rebuilt to serve again. Mrs. Manchin spoke of West Virginia pride and the dedication as well as hard work ethics of West Virginians. Mrs. Manchin personally greeted several students and teachers of Hannan. Hannan's pride glowed today. Mrs. Manchin's message was clear. We hold our heads up high at Hannan as we celebrate our achievements and meet our challenges together. Go Wildcats!!
