WV Batman dropped by the school today. Not to fight crime but to give our kids a message about hope and empowerment.
1. Never give up.
2. Always do the right thing.
3. Help other people.
4. Never be a bully.
Batman, aka John Buckland, spoke to the students about his own personal trauma of childhood abuse, molestation, and bullying. This unresolved trauma led to his self-destructive behavior, including substance abuse, suicide attempts and felony conviction. He shared his message that with counseling, he was able to overcome his past trauma. He spoke candidly about breaking the cycle of abuse and addiction. With counseling, trauma no longer has the power over you. Past experiences contribute to the person you are but does not define you. He overcame his trauma and he gave hope to those who are experiencing current trauma, to never give up and find someone to talk to. This world can be changed if we all lived by his 4 point message: Never give up; Always do the right thing; Help other people and Never be a bully.
Thank you to Mason County Commissioners for sponsoring WV Batman to visit our Mason County Schools!
(Prestera offers school based therapy on Mondays, so any student can receive counseling while at school) Email Ms. Judy for a Prestera intake packet if interested for your student. judith.pauley@k12.wv.us )
