Students from 10th; 11th & 12th grades visited MountWest Community & Technical Center (MCTC) today.
We learned about JUMPSTART. A no cost program for students in WV to obtain dual credit options. Students choose a pathway where classes count towards high school credit. So students can earn up to 24 credit hours (an entire year of college) before they even start their program at MCTC.
There's also a LEARN TO EARN apprenticeship that allows $1500 stipend and $ 150 boot allowance for the construction areas. This program offers students opportunity to gain work experience while completing their degree program. Student-employees who are working in their field, earn a minimum of $15/hour while actively enrolled as a student. Students can find employment, earn a wage, establish roots while earning a degree.
We also got to go inside an ambulance to learn about EMT program; and experience a Podcast Room.
At the Cyber Center we learned about graphic design and Social Media Management and they have an AWESOME state of the art gaming room that is free for the students.
We had lots of questions for the fields of welding, Information Technology, Machinist; Paralegal, Criminal Justice to name a few programs.
All in all a great day to be a Wildcat and learn what is available to our students.
Thank you GEAR UP for providing us this opportunity! #GEARUPworks
