Reach Out for Connection
January can feel isolating, especially after the holiday season. Text a friend or loved one to check in and share how you’re feeling. A simple message can foster connection and remind you that you’re not alone in facing the winter blues.

We are SO proud of you! Way to represent Hannan so well!

As a student, have you considered looking at attendance this way?
When you miss class, it’s like missing a piece of a puzzle. The more pieces you miss, the harder it is to see the whole picture.
Finish up the 1st semester strong! Be here and get the life skills you will need for the future!
Our attendance rate as of today is 94.1 %!

Rather than jumping into ambitious resolutions, take this month to reflect on the past year and explore what truly matters to you.
Specifically, try jotting down answers to questions like:
“When did I feel most alive, present, or fulfilled this past year?”
“Where did I experience sadness, guilt, comparison, or judgment?”
“What might these emotions reveal about what I genuinely value?”
This exercise, inspired by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), helps you reconnect with your inner values and set grounded intentions—without the pressure to immediately change everything.
Lots of going on with GEAR UP!
At the Student Voice Forum, the students spoke up, what's on their mind.
What MOTIVATES students for college/post secondary education.
Money. Means to an end. Able to buy things they want.
Relationships. Sense of belonging.
Personal Satisfaction.
Religion.
What are the BARRIERS/CHALLENGES??
Lack of confidence/Self Esteem
Cost
No Support System
GEAR UP provides funds so we can purchase equipment that helps our students, ex. Virtual Reality equipment; Texas Instruments equipment, Poster making printer, etc...

Welcome back students! And maybe some parents out there who are happy that school is back in session, lol.
We hope you had an amazing break! Now it's time to get back in the groove and make the rest of this semester amazing!
Showing Up Matters! Every day you are here, is a chance to grow and crush your school goals!
See you in class!

The holiday season can be joyful, but it can also feel overwhelming or leave us drained. As we step into the new year, remember:
It’s okay to rest.
It’s okay to set boundaries.
It’s okay to ask for help.
Take time to recharge, reflect, and prioritize your well-being.
You matter—today and every day.
If you need support, reach out to a friend, family member, or mental health professional.
Prestera offers school-based therapy if any student is interested. Therapy will take place during the school day, so transportation is not an issue.
We are so proud of these talented students who have earned a spot in the WV State University Honor Band at the end of the month.
Your dedication, countless hours of practice, and passion for music have truly paid off.

For those students needing a ride, the bus will be at Hannan at 7:45 am.
It will return at 1:30 PM.
Oh my! We have lots going on for GU!!
First, check out our new Instagram account. Destinee is doing a great job! We are so proud of her!
hannan.gear.up on Instagram
Secondly, the Virtual Reality (VR) equipment bought by Gear Up is here! Ms. Hannah Gorrell received the training and oh my goodness, what a great way to learn.
The VR can take our students to the Roman Coliseum, or underwater to swim with sharks, or fly over the Grand Canyon, or job shadow a vet tech or another job. And if it's not already programed in that a student wants to experience, Ms. G can request it be made! So many possibilities! (see attached photos of the kids having a great time swimming with the sharks)
Thirdly, our HEROs group met this week. We decorated cookies and attended a virtual meeting with all the HEROs across the state. The purpose was to create a project to inspire our students to attend college or seek post-secondary certifications.
Our HERO group decided on doing a mock and life size version of the Game of Life with 4 different pathways: HS diploma; Nucor/Toyota; Career Center or Certifications; and College. This game will help students visualize and think through what they want to do after graduation high school. It will be played in the gym and a date to be determined later. We are excited about this project!!!
